Enrichment Courses
Ed.D. 10a        Seminar on Classroom Management, Planning, and Assessment  
Students study a range of theories and principles applied by teach­ers (classroom management, planning issues, assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning) in a seminar setting. The portfolio is submitted and evalu­ated during this course. (3 units)
Ed.D. 10b        Field Experience and Action Research                                             
Students engage in a critical investigation of the culture and organization of schooling and an examination of educational research. The purposes of the class include analy­sis of schooling through observation, inter­view, and qualitative and quantitative study. Particular emphasis will focus on how teach­ers organize classrooms, how they commu­nicate and interact with students, how they plan curricula and lessons for student learn­ing appropriate for the developmental level, how they make decisions, how they make use of educational technology, how they assess learning, how they adapt lessons to meet varied learning needs, including students with disabilities, and how they contribute to their own knowledge through professional development and action research. Students participate in at least 60 hours of supervised field experience in diverse settings. (3 units)
Ed.D. 10c        Seminar on Modern Strategies and Approaches in Teaching         
Seeks to identify and demonstrate appro­priate modern teaching techniques for all levels of classes. Course topics include teaching controversial issues, trends in teaching the total curriculum, values and objectives in the teaching, the use of instructional technology in the curriculum, and student assessment. Students will design and teach demonstration lessons congruent with the Learning Standards and prepare assessments on specific topics with an emphasis on meeting the needs of diverse learners. A field-placement experi­ence is required. (3 units)
I. Core Courses              
Ed.D. 101         Educational Issues and Perspectives on Education               
It covers a range of higher educational issues from various perspectives that would illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of the field of education and the range of areas of inquiry that comprise the field of education research. Issues that determines success in schooling; the role of various stakeholders in students’ education; and the various ways of developing, implementing and evaluating the curriculum are considered. This course will draw on seminal readings, research findings, and media reports, as well as studies on the Philippine educational sector. Course requirements shall include papers on the different issues. (3 units)
 Ed.D. 102        Quantitative Research Methods in Education
A course designed to introduce the student to different methods for conducting research in educational administration and supervision as well as prepare the student in creating proposals for original pieces of research. The course emphasizes the logic underlying research investigation, methodology, statistical analysis and interpretation of data. A simple quantitative action research is a course requirement. (3 units)
 Ed.D. 103        Advanced Statistics for Research with Computer Application
A course designed to introduce hypothesis testing in educational research using descriptive and inferential models of statistical analyses. The student will also learn to use the computer to analyze data using the statistical models presented. Hypotheses testing with statistical analyses are the major requirements of the course. (3 units)
 Ed.D. 104        Qualitative Research Methods in Education
This course examines qualitative methods used in educational research, focusing primarily on participant observation, on asking questions, on writing field notes, and on the transformation of these primary field data into written ethnographic documents. A simple qualitative action research is a course requirement. (3 units)
 Ed.D. 105        Philosophy and History of Educational Thoughts     
The aim of this course is to study the philosophy and history of educational thoughts which expresses both the criticism to educational condition. It considers philosophical and educational thoughts from the point of view as follows: education for human being; education for children; education at school; and education and society (nation). An examination of philosophical ideas, theories, and beliefs as they relate to modern educational practices and implications is a course requirement. (3 units)                            
Ed.D. 106        Administration and Governance of School System                            
Organizational policies and procedures including theories and practices are examined. The course focuses on organizational leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making techniques, their characteristics, and their applications to school administration and governance. Historical and contemporary models of administration and governance will be investigated and will form the basis for inquiry into supervision as a behavior system. The purposes and methods of effective school administration are covered. An observation report on the administration of a particular is a course requirement. (3 units)
II. Specialization Courses
Ed.D. 107        School Finance and Physical Resources Management                                   
The purpose of this course is to provide an in-depth study of finance and budgeting for school systems and management of school’s physical resources. It includes the efficient management of the financial affairs of schools. Specific areas include educational planning, budgeting, accounting and auditing procedures. A budget proposal for specific business affair is a course requirement. (3 units)
Ed.D. 108        Sociological Factors in Education      
An opportunity to examine the changing sociological factors affecting Philippine education. Problem solving approaches to these situations will be utilized. A sociological analysis of education as a distinct social institution with an emphasis on the complex organizational structure, the relationship between the educational system and the individual, as well as other social institutions, and the process of social change as it applies to the system of education. A paper on Filipino culture and present day social problems and their relations to education is a course requirement. (3 units)
Ed.D. 109        Human Resource Management and Development    
It is designed with emphasis on the alignment of human asset management in educational system and programs with the goals and strategies and values of the organization. It presents tools for analyzing strategic alignment and function as change agent, and how in partnership with top management, one of the most critical sources of sustainable competitive advantage - an organization whose design, culture, and people are aligned with strategy and values - can be built. Topics such as recruitment, selection, training, career management, performance assessment, grievances and appeals are given emphasis. A report of functions, approaches, techniques and strategies including various tolls of human resource development is course requirement. (3 units)
Ed.D. 110         Seminar on Curriculum Design and Development
The course includes a brief review of curriculum theory and presents techniques for writing and organizing curriculum. It includes the practical performance and theoretical-analytical levels of course organization and the incorporation of evaluative techniques into the curriculum for its development. An evaluation and examination of specific education curriculum and reorganization of the curriculum is a course requirement. (3 units)
Ed.D. 111         School Law and Ethical Values in Higher Education
This course includes the legal basis for higher education, with special emphasis on the educational provisions. A study is made of legal principles that relate to such matters as authority, responsibility and liability of school boards, districts and the whole educational organizations. The legal and ethical status of school administration, teachers and students are considered. A paper on current school practices vis-à-vis educational legislation and ethical values are a course requirement. (3 units)
Ed.D. 112         Seminar on Total Quality Management in Education           
The course enables learners to analyze and apply various quality management tools using the systems approach in school management. The course focuses on different quality management systems, from basic Total Quality Management to the more advanced Environmental Quality Management System, with emphasis on structure, requirements, critical success factors, and its implementation procedures. Case studies highlighting the applications in different organizations involving quality and productivity movements, their evolution, and implementation strategies are the requirements. (3 units)
Ed.D. 113         Seminar on Principalship and Superintendency          
Part one of the course is designed to address administrative preparation, this course covers site-based management, program planning and assessment, personnel management, legal problems, public relations, pupil accounting, scheduling, facilities, finance and budgeting. Part two is emphasized on the role and responsibilities of the superintendent. Major topics are superintendent’s relationship with the school board, legal issues, administration, staff and teacher organizations, and the challenge of educational leadership.         Papers on site-based administration are the terminal requirements. (3 units)
Ed.D. 114         Human Relations and Decision-Making in Education                                  
This course examines current human and public relations including sociological and demographic educational issues. It includes management models, communication strategies, election campaigns, community advisories, and the role of information systems. Theories and legal bases are considered in the decision-making process for effective and efficient school management. Thus, the study of the decision making behavior of individuals, work-groups, departments, and complex educational organizations will be given emphasis. The securing of consistency, the coordinating of various planning units, and the economizing of planning efforts in regard to decision-making will also be included. (3 units)
III. Cognates
Ed.D. 115         Seminar on School Supervision and Administration
This course focuses on the application of supervisory tasks in the field. Assignments include the implementation of techniques and styles of supervision and administration in schools and are conducted under the guidance of a professor and a school supervisor. Thus, a site-based project will require that the student experience interactions and decision making with administrators and teachers. Presentations of papers based on field works are completed under the direction of a professor. (3 units)
Ed.D. 116         Seminar on Advanced Tests, Measurement and Program Evaluation
This course deals with advanced principles of test, measurement, and program evaluation. Students will explore the study of objective tests, measurements and evaluations of programs in education, preparing the student for the selection, administration, interpretation, and effective classroom and school use of standardized and informal tests and assessment results. A paper on adequate diagnosis as the necessary basis for skillful educational guidance is a course requirement for presentation. (3 units)
Ed.D. 117         Seminar on Strategic Planning and Management in Education         
It focuses on the application of strategic planning and management concepts to educational decision making across topic areas of corporate-level strategy, promotion, and distribution. An integrated analysis of major strategic management decisions, including implementation, distribution, and policies. This course helps students conceptualize and present papers related to strategic planning process as it relates to the primary determinants of school profits. Students also develop an in-depth understanding of the school business and problems educational managers face in a global educational environment, and explore various solutions to these problems. (3 units)      
IV. Culminating Requirements
DI-SC  Dissertation Seminar and Colloquium           
This course is offered in an intensive seminar format designed to assist students in making substantive progress toward identifying, refining a dissertation topic, and preparing a dissertation proposal. Students will be expected to make oral and written presentations of their proposal and to critique the work of other students. (3 units)    
DI-WR            Dissertation Writing                                                             
This course requires significant preparation and active involvement of the researcher and the adviser. Students will be expected to make oral and written presentations of their dissertation before the committee. (9 units)
