KORO KOLEHIYO DE SAN COLUMBANO
KORO COLEGIO DE SAN COLUMBANO or simply KORO to many, started very simply yet meaningfully. The group started with 8 members composed of students and faculty from the College of Business Administration. It was through the initiative of Susan P. Alegoria-Groom, EdD, to form a choir to sing at the Installation Ceremony of the 3rd College President, The Rev. Msgr. Crisostomo A. Cacho. The newly formed choir gave a wonderful performance and touched the audience. After that, the former Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Student Services, Ma. Antonia M. Balde, EdD decided to institutionalize the choir during their administrative meeting. The school president also expressed his willingness to form a chorale group that will enliven the cultural awareness of the college.
A series of auditions for all colleges of the school were conducted and those who successfully passed the screening became the core group . To date, the Koro had sang at different citywide and regional events. The participation of the group at the Philippine National University Chorale (PNU Chorale) benefit concert at the Philamlife Theatre paved the way to the rise of the chorale ensemble. This marked the beginning of the group's national exposure building a more resounding confidence and inspiration to the members.
In 2009, the choir participated in many events, the biggest being “Divertissement”, a series of concerts in tribute to National Artist Dr. Lucrecia Kasilag. In May 2010, when the school coordinated with the Gawad Kalinga Foundation, GK Chairman Tony Meloto was amazed by the performance of the choir and invited the Koro to sing at the kick-off event of the Gawad Kalinga Builders’ Night held at the NBC Tent, Taguig City, Metro Manila.
The Koro's success would not be possible without the expertise and adept skills of Mr. Roland M. Fronda, the choir’s conductor. Under his tutelage, the choir was able to grasp an upscale learning environment making each member move to higher level each practice. His patience and hardwork turned the group into a precious gem. His belief on the talents of Columbanites would surely help make the group nationally and perhaps even world renowned.
The KORO COLEGIO DE SAN COLUMBANO... aiming high, singing for God’s glory and touching lives. “Christi Simus Non Nostri.”
